BSI Smart City Certification shaping session

This workshop is bringing together stakeholders including Smart City leaders, service providers and other stakeholders to understand the barriers to implementing smart cities, explore what problems Smart City certification could help solve and to shape a potential solution.

Speakers ​include:

Chris Parker
Managing Partner, CS Transform

Chris will be facilitating the session and providing an update on the Smart City standards landscape.  He is the author of PAS181 Smart city framework. Guide to establishing strategies for smart cities and communities which is currently going through the process of becoming a new ISO standard.  His career includes a 14 years working for the UK Government, including leading the team in the UK Prime Minister’s office which developed and delivered one of the world’s most successful eGovernment Strategies. Chris is co-founder of CS Transform and provides strategic advice and support to Government leaders responsible for driving IT-enabled transformation, within the public sector and across the wider economy. In this role, Chris has consulted extensively, working with over 35 governments around the world on all aspects of citizen service transformation.  leading the team in the UK Prime Minister’s office which developed and delivered one of the world’s most successful eGovernment Strategies.

Gavin Summerson

Senior Certification Manager, BSI Group

Gavin will be opening the session to provide an introduction to the day.  Gavin leads on development of certification solutions for Smart Cities and Digital construction for BSI, working in the Built Environment team.  He has 15 years experience delivering sustainability in the built environment, including 10 years developing BREEAM, the most widely adopted rating tool for buildings.  Gavin was part of the team contracted to DCLG to author the Code for Sustainable Homes.  Following this he worked as a sustainability consultant to provide advice on sustainability strategies for buildings and communities in London, from the planning stage through to occupation.  He also has previously worked as a Policy advisor in Local authority implementing ISO14001 and is now focusing on developing solutions for Smart cities and digital construction such as the BSI BIM Kitemark launched in December 2016.  ​
