Flexeye attended the IoT Week 2014 event in London representing HyperCat earlier this month. It was a great event with a welcome from Lord Erroll, Chairman of the HyperCat Advisory Board, who highlighted the importance of understanding the security challenges within IoT. Andrew Tyrer from the UK's Innovation Agency: the Technology Strategy Board discussed funding opportunities available to UK companies.
Many other industry leaders from Europe, Asia and the Americas were also present to talk about a wide range of IoT topics, lead panel discussions with other experts in the field, present their IoT use cases, and hold workshops. A number of companies also showcased their IoT products around the event space, including Flexeye, IERC, PrismTech and OPEN IoT.
Justin Anderson, Flexeye CEO and HyperCat Lead Partner, gave an interesting presentation on the topic “IoT Modularization will Disrupt Everything!” He looked at how the computer industry of the 70’s quickly shifted from one driven by a small number of industry giants to a much larger number of more nimble and focused companies that worked together in an ecosystem to deliver disruptive solutions. He argued that the same pressures will drive the IoT industry to rapidly modularize and a whole new industry of specialized vendors will emerge, working together with common standards to create an exciting future for mankind and the planet.
HyperCat Partner Pilgrim Beart from 1248 explained the benefits of HyperCat the following day. He explained that HyperCat makes it easy for IoT applications to discovers resources on IoT services, which will move us away from today's siloed verticals towards tomorrows broader interoperability. HyperCat allows machines to discover any interoperability without human intervention. This eliminates the software engineering API bottleneck.
Amyas Phillips from ARM, another mega HyperCat partner, talked about Small Data, Big Data. ARM and its partners are collaborating to deliver accessible, efficient and secure technology that meets the diverse needs of IoT applications. Amyas discussed how billions of end devices, from the tiniest to ultra-efficient connected end nodes or a high performance cloud platform, can intelligently connect and interoperate. Through using existing open standards we can enable IoT devices to simply and securely be accessed by application developers across markets, services and deployments.
Other lead speakers included Alexandra Deschamps-Sonsino amongst many other influential people.
Flexeye was involved in various other fun activities at the IoT Week; from winning the Fitman prize, playing a board game with CultureQs Eric Lynn, to joining the IoT People.
